Smart Phone – An asset transforming the world
Earlier communication of people between different
area, cities or countries was very difficult. People used to communicate
through letters, then after many years, telephone was invented. There were two
inventors Antonio Meucci and Charles Bourseul, who invented telephone in 1849
and 1854 respectively. Then, in 1876 Alexander Graham bell invented first
patent telephone. After almost hundred years in 1973 first handheld or cordless
mobile phone was invented by Dr. Martin Cooper, which made communication more effortless.
Then, after some years smartphone came into the
picture. The first ever smartphone was launched in 1994 by a tech company
called IBM and started getting popularity in early 2000’s and in some country
mid of 2000’s.
What is Smart Phone
A smartphone is basically a combination of a computer
and a cell phone. Smartphones also serves as cameras, satellite, navigation
devices, media players, and the device we can connect to internet.
We can also say that smartphone is a mobile phone that
performs many of the functions of computer.
When we add the prefix ‘smart’ to a device’s name, it
means that it has advanced computing features.
With the help of smartphone people can communicate
with each other very easily. But apart from communication there are many other
reasons, that a smartphone has become an important asset in humans’ life. Some
major factors are: -

Smartphones have internet access and capabilities by which people can easily
access different kinds of educational website through the internet on their
mobile phone.

Smartphone saves money:
Today communication has become way easier than it was before. Earlier people
used to spend a lot of money to communicate with each other through internet by
using different applications on smartphone.

Smartphone saves time:
Smartphone helps in saving a lot of time. We can send messages in just less
than a second, we can create documents or pdfs within few minutes, we can book
train, flight, bus tickets, we can book hotels, cabs, within 2 to 3 minutes.

Smartphone allows us to become Social:
Smartphone provides an opportunity to become socially active and allows us to
do some social activities and making connection with different people all
around the world through apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and
any other social media apps.

Smartphone helps in travelling:
Smartphone is a very handy device that it can taken by us where ever we want by
just keeping it in our pockets or purse etc. While travelling a handy
smartphone helps in finding location with the help of google map application. If
we are at some unknown place, within few seconds we can easily find out the
place name and also the description of the place.

Smartphone is used for entertainment: Now
a days smartphones are most popular used for entertainment purpose. Smartphones
have different kinds of entertainment features. Now a days smartphones have big
HD display to watch movies, songs, and play games on it.

It can be used to capture memorable moments of our life. Now a days, there is
lot of new features coming in smartphones, that allows us to capture high
quality photos and videos. Many vloggers and video makers, shoot whole videos
on smartphone and even edit the video in phone.

Alarm and reminders:
Smartphones are digital personal assistant. We can set alarm and remiders on
our phones. We can also make a to do lists and set alarm or reminder on our
smartphone to remind.

Play Games:
Today we are living in an era where mobile gaming is full time profession of
many people all around the world. Mobile gamers are making huge amount of money
all over the world.

Learning and Research using smartphone:
Smartphones are the most beneficial digital device used for learning and
research purposes. In recent times, due to covid outbreak the whole world was
in lockdown. But the learning didn’t stop. Many people who do not have laptop
or PC, they studied online with the help of smartphones.
To every pro there is cons as well
Some cons of smartphones are as follows:

Spending more time on smartphone
creates sleep deprivation and neck pain.

Heavy internet usage might lead to electromagnetic
radiation effect on our brain and skin causing tumors and cancers.

Children can be affected physically
and mentally due to unwanted exposure to HEV light of screen.

It can create psychological issues
such as loneliness, anti-social disorders, etc.
However, there are two sides of coin. Always look for
positive and helpful aspect of anything and leave negative aside. To sum it up,
a smartphone is a revolutionary device, that has always contributed for our
betterment, its just that we have to use is wisely.
As “Arianna Huffington” says “We take better
care of our smartphone than ourselves. We know when the battery is depleted and
recharge it”.
