Robotics: A World of Intelligence Created by Humans
What is Robot?
A “robot” is a machine that’s designed by humans
to do a specific job. And the scientists who design and build robots are called
“roboticists”. Robots do job that people can’t do or don’t want to do. Like if
the job is boring, if it involves doing the same thing over and over or if a
job is very dangerous and it means going places where people could get hurt,
then robots are used, to do that job. Basically, robot is any automatically operated
machine that replaces human effort, though it may resemble humans in appearance
or perform functions like humans.
Major Examples of Robotics
There are many different examples and application of robotics all around the world. Some of the major examples of Robotics are as
follows:
Household – Robots are
designed to decrease human efforts. In household, robots are cooking bots, lawn-mower,
and vacuum bots, have powered to be super helpful assistants. These robots
basically provide us great ease and comfort to consumers by finishing the task assigned
to them, quickly and effortlessly.
Agriculture – Robots in
agriculture are specially designed to assist the farmers with a wide range of
operations. They have capability to analyze, contemplate, and carry out multiple
functions. Their primary role is to manage labor intensive, repetitive and
physically demanding tasks.
Entertainment - There’s a
lot of application of robotics in entertainment industry. Robots are designed
for entertaining audiences. Such as toys, clowns, and automated creatures that
appear in science fiction films and rides. Robotics are used in toys and games which
largely attracts young minds. Nowadays, toys are incorporated with machine
learning to allow them to perform task or answer questions by themselves.
Robots allow people of all ages to have fun.
Industry - Robots are
used in the manufacturing industry. It helps the complete the task with great
speed, precision, and endurance. Robots in industries are used for handling
jobs, welding, cutting, etc. Robots are controlled by computers and their
actions can be programmed in advance. Robots have sensor by which starts and
stops working automatically. Robotics arms can perform the same movement over
and over again, with incredible accuracy, that a human arm cannot perform.
Robots in industries is used for speed and precision, to make them particularly
use for tasks that require repetitive work and high controls.
Education – Robotics is used in education sector widely. With the assistance of robotics, a sick child is provided with the facility to attend the class virtually. Robots help teachers to deliver lesson and allow students to learn topics in which they are interested. Robots in educational field can help people learn about how machines work and explore the world of robotics in a safe and controlled atmosphere.
Automotive Industry – Robotics is
used in automotive industry in a large scale. Assembling of mechanical parts,
in manufacturing plants, robot arms assemble smaller parts, such as motors and
pumps at high speed, screw driving, wheel mounting, windshield installation,
etc. Some other major functions such as transfer of parts, removal of material,
polishing, quality and control, etc.
Defense – In defense, robotics is used in many ways such as logistics, supply and management,
intelligence and surveillance and reconnaissance, cyber operations, etc. The
intelligence devices are used to control the missiles, locate snipers, survey
the enemy area, etc. The robots in defense acts as great support in different activities
such as fire battle, battle damage management, aerial refueling, laying mines,
electronic warfare and many others.
Future of Robotics
Artificial Intelligence is basically an essential part
of robotics. Without AI robots are not robots. With the help of AI, robots can identify
and recognize objects they meet, learn how to navigate or avoid specific items.
AI helps the robots gain the fine motor skills needed to grasp objects without
destroying the item. Robots no longer need humans to guide them along the paths
and process flows. This capability even applies to the virtual world of
software. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) help robots to
better understand their surroundings, analyzing and comprehend data.
Every country, all around the world is using and
developing robotics in different fields in some or the other ways, which
ultimately helps in development of the country and evolve human beings.
According to a report, the Japanese government is spending one-third of its
budget on the growth of care-robots to help the elderly. Currently, 25 per cent
of Japan’s population is over 65 years of age, and by the year 2065, it is
anticipated to rise to 40%.
Robotics is constantly evolving. The US Marine crops
tested a four-legged robotic dog to explore its use for combat. The prototype, named
Spot, was made by Google X’s Boston Dynamic.
Manav is another output of an amazing robotics in
India as it is a first humanoid robot in India. It was developed in the laboratory
of A-SET Training and Research Institute in 2014. The humanoid robot can walk,
dance and can follow the commands given by humans with the help of multiple
sensors.
According to Statista, the global market for industrial
robots was sized about 43.8 million US dollars in 2021. The market is expected
to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 10%, reaching around
70.6 million US dollars by 2028.
Though everything all around the universe has its pros
and cons, robotics will always useful, ease the human efforts and will
ultimately solve many critical problems around the world.
As J.J. Abrams says, “Robotics are the beginning to
cross that line from absolutely primitive motion to motion that resembles
animal or human behavior”.
