5G Network – The Evolution of World

5G is the fifth-generation network mobile network or a network technology with new global wireless technology after 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G.

Earlier we have seen and experienced 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G. 1G was the first-generation cellular network, which was introduced in late 70’s and fully implemented in early 80’s. It was launched in United States. 1G was an analog technology and phones generally have poor battery life and voice quality was without much security, and would sometimes experience drop calls. The maximum speed of 1G was 2.4Kbps. Then, 1G was replaced by 2G in the year 1991 as GSM standard in Finland. The major difference between 1G and 2G are radio signals used by 1G networks are analog and the signals used by 2G networks are digital. It provided small data service like SMS and mms. The maximum speed of 2G with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is 50Kbps to 1Mbps.

3G was the third-generation wireless mobile telecommunication technology, which was introduced in 2003 by Hutchison Telecommunications. After 1G and 2G, third generation network created the benchmark for most of the wireless technology. Web browsing, video downloading, picture sharing, and other smart phone technology were introduced in third generation. The maximum transferring speed of 3G was 384 Kbps going up to 2 Mbps. And then 4G, it was introduced in 2009. Stockholm & Oslo was the first city where 4G was introduced in large commercial scale. 4G network offers maximum speed up to around 100 Mbps. Now 4G network is been relevant for quite a long than other networks and has changed many things all around the world.

And here comes the new generation of network i.e., 5G.

"5G wireless technology is produced to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability and a more uniform user experience to more users".
Its higher performance and improved efficiency encourage new user experiences and connects new industries.

5G wireless technology was first introduced in April 2019 in parts of Chicago and Minneapolis. South Korea was the first country to adopt 5G on a large scale and in 2020, commercial 5G networks have been deployed in 378 cities across 34 countries.

To use 5G wireless technology, a device or phone is also required that has features to support 5G wireless technology. Many smartphone companies have already started manufacturing smartphones that will have features to support 5G network. Some companies have already launched the 5G supporting smartphones in the market.

In India, recently government had successfully completed the 5G spectrum auction on 1st August 2022. In that auction, Reliance Jio emerged as top buyer by spending over Rs.88,000 crores, which is more than half the total budding amount.

According to Ookla’s 5G network tracker, India is one of the few major countries without 5G network. India’s immediate neighbors like Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan too haven’t joined the 5G ‘bandwagon yet.

Fifth generation telecom services are likely to be rolled out in India by the end of year 2022.

Recently, an event held in India, Airtel showcased the 5G network’s high speed, low latency, in respect to videos.

During that event the company recreated and played cricket legend Kapil Dev’s 1983 cricket world cup match 175 Not Out innings in 4K over 1Gbps network speed and 20 millisecond low latency. Bedside’s this company also held India’s first 5G powered hologram interaction with Kapil Dev sir. This telecom event was a highly anticipated event where many big youtubers have also participated and many others digital creators.

Impact of 5G network In Global Economy

·       The main functional drivers of 5G will create a wide range of opportunities, optimization to service delivery and end-user experience. This can lead to $13.2 trillion in global economic value by 2035 and generating over 22.3 million jobs in 5G global value chain.

·       Combining high speed internet and VR (Virtual Reality) can remove the physical location constraint for experimental practices and facilitate the sharing of resources between large number of companies and educational institutions.

·       E-learning has become real today and 5G will surely going to boost the education industry massively. During lockdown we have already seen the power of internet i.e., 4G network in the educational field. So, we cannot even imagine how massively 5G will affect our education sector.

·       The implementation of the 5G wireless technology can help in facilitating the larger quantities of data and better analytics at a faster rate.

·        The increase of machine-to-machine and electronic communication done on mobile phones, laptops or through laptop could result in more efficient use of capital and labor.

·       The expansion of 5G wireless technology may also help in faster development in automotive industry. With the high reduction in latency, the vehicles will be able to respond 10 to 100 times faster.  Today millions of vehicles connect to cellular networks for real time navigation, connected infotainment and emergency services.

·       The implementation of 5G can highly benefit healthcare industry, it will provide different levels of connectivity to enable a new health ecosystem, one can meet patients and provider needs accurately, efficiently, conveniently, cost effectively by the use of robotics, IoT and AI.

·        5G wireless technology will have a huge impact on Gaming industry all around the world. It will help in prevention from lagging while streaming. With this technology, we can stream in HD, 4K and even in 8K. According to report, there are more than 2.5 billion gamers all around the world as of 2020 and this number has increased exponentially and will further increase in future also. And it can take gaming industry to the next level.

·       The evolution of 5G wireless technology can bring a huge impact on e-commerce, online business, digital marketing, it will allow the consumer and a brand and its products a much closer connection. We can work from remote with more efficiency and effectiveness. Nowadays, everything can be done digitally as technology has evolved so much like online business, different marketing processes, sales, online investments, and in this 5G will definitely play a significant role upgradation.

Conclusion

It is a fact that, in the process of doing anything new, there will be thousands of challenges likewise for implementing 5G network in our country or any particular city will require a lot of infrastructure, investments and any other resources. But one thing is for sure that with the implementation of  5G wireless technology will bring dynamism and the development of the country in each and every sector, and it will ultimately have positive impact on global economy
